A Personality Profile for a Family Ymca
Amy Cook is an outstanding coworker and person. I decided to write an example personality profile on her. Enjoy
Ed Isakson YMCA and administration to uphold the traditional core values.
Even after 17 years in child services as camper, counselor, manager and Director of Child Services, Amy Cook strives to uphold the YMCA’s core values in all youth programs of the YMCA.
Cook, 38, is the current Director of Child Services for the Ed Isakson YMCA in Metro Atlanta, which has promoted youth development and helped hundreds of children all over Georgia. She was among the first of many administration to work for the summer camp program, Camp Big Creek. As Director of Child Services Cook has molded Camp Big Creek into a youth program of distinction and has received many awards including Director of the Year.
Cook became Director of Child Services years after working as a counselor at Camp Big Creek. Upon receiving her title Cook told many staff that she would take the YMCA’s core values—Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Caring—and further incorporate them in camp by creating an age appropriate “community” for youths where individual goals could be met.
“I’ll always remember being a camper in my youth. Camp was the only place where I could express myself and have a personal individual, teacher and friend, to teach me values and morals,” says Ami, “And now I have been blessed with the ability to see kids who were once in my position grow up and become the same individuals they used to look up to as well.”
Since then she has helped with many youth programs for Ed Isakson’s YMCA, one being Prime Time—An after school program not owned by the YMCA its self but associated with the YMCA’s name and facilities. Prime Time has been established as an afterschool program that works hand and hand with the YMCA by using its facilities and guidance.
“The programs that we have worked with and created are some of my most memorable experiences– Each one being as enriching for myself and the staff as for the kids,” she often says.
With being known as an involved and passionate employee, Cook is also known as the “Mother” of camp. Although she prefers the kids of Camp Big Creek to call her “Amy” the children and staff often refer to her as the mom or cornerstone of camp.
“I have been in child care for many years and I can truly say that I have never worked with someone so passionate. Her vision and ideas are the heart of Camp Big Creek,” said Skot Wites, Camp Leader and Counselor, “Amy refers to Camp as a ‘Community of Kids’ and we of the YMCA have seen first-hand how she has made it so.”
Cook asks for those that are able and interested to get involved in any program or organization that helps the children of the world. In addition she asks for support as she and her staff work diligently to provide affordable, safe, and nurturing environments for the youth.
