Why Comment?

Why are comments such an integral part of blogs?

Today blogs hold considerable influence in Mass Media and are considered  an official part of  “Mainstream Media“.  As a collective body, blogs hold the opinions and views of companies, employees, families and many different types of people. Many of these opinions and views spark the interests of consumers and producers alike.  Since the “Yin and Yang” of society, consumer and producer, are the primary focuses of Mass Media the popularity of blogs has been growing at an alarming rate.

What makes these blogs, that represent the views and opinions of the masses, so versatile and attractive is the ability to leave comments. Comments are left by readers on blogs for many reasons.

Comments can consist of:

  • Stating an Opinion
  • Leaving Support
  • Adding extra Information
  • Leaving Links to further Information
  • Redirecting Readers to official records
  • Sharing an Experience

Comments are an integral part of blogging because they influence communication to the masses, readers and authors, while allowing voices to be heard. Negative as well as positive comments help distribute ideas, opinions and information which results in the education of readers. Without the ability to comment blogs would be considered an “One way” communication application. Studies have shown that sites/applications are more popular when two way communication exists.

I really liked what you had to say about focus. This is true with any type of letter, blog, or post. I can not stand reading things that bounce around and are not on topic. In otherwords, I can’t stand reading unfocused material. Do not write just to write. Write to enlighten and present ideas that others could learn from. This is accomplished by focused writing. Even today in college, alot of the text we have to read is not focused writing and it makes it hard to learn. I love not only this part of your post, but the entire entry as well.

I agree with your thoughts on comments. I feel like comments are useful to anyone’s blog. If you don’t receive comments on your blogs then you won’t be able to make your blog better.
It is important to get positive and negative comments. If you only receive positive comments you may never improve. Negative comments give you the necessary critism for change. Change is almost always a step in the right direction. Change lets you learn about your abilities. Change also helps you reach your full potential because you have the chance to improve your abilities.
You made an excellent point when you said that comments turn a blog into two-way communication. With only a blog, one person gets to speak their mind, but with comments a blog becomes a positive experience for not only the blogger but the reader, too.
